Legacy Planning could mean a number of things. Here is what we mean by Legacy Planning:
Many have a Will, life insurance, or both. Some have plans for their funeral in place. Most of us with kids have given thought to who would take care of them in our absence. How many have gone to the trouble of playing out and then planning what the days, weeks, and months after our demise would be like for our loved ones? Even more troubling is the notion that you may have planned well for your own passing with your spouse, but what if you and your spouse pass together? How would your brother, sister, child, or friend know what to do? There will be emotional distress, so why burden loved ones with the stress of struggling through details that could have easily been memorialized?
We will take a thoughtful and caring approach to all of the critical (and some not so critical) aspects of your affairs and create the Digital Binder to memorialize the story and create a map of all your relevant information.
We will not provide you legal, financial planning, or tax advice. We will not try and sell you life insurance. We are planners, and will work with you to ensure you have a plan in place that works for your loves ones.
A Legacy Plan can be created for your personal affairs, your family owned business or both.
A Digital Binder is just as it sounds. You will have a binder full of organized content and documents, created and stored online, so they can be easily updated and shared. When prepared thoughtfully, it will tell a story and create a map that will help all when it is needed.
We recognize the sensitivity to having important information stored on line. In general, we do not recommend that you store certain types of information which are sensitive within the Digital Binder. The key is that your loved ones have a map to where they can easily find that information, however you have chosen to safeguard it today.
When we get to the final review and training session, those individuals whom you would like to participate, will be trained on the basics of the Digital Binder software, the content you have entered, and the way in which they will interact with it, in the event they need to do so.
If something happened to you today, what would your family do about your business tomorrow? We walk through this scenario, and determine the best course of action from the various options (wind down, sale, or going concern). Then we can work with you and your family to put the plans in place so that desired outcome can be achieved if there is a worst case scenario. This service also focused on an planning for an incapacitation, not just the loss of a loved one.
The Family Plan includes 3 parts in the service offering:
- The Coaching session. First, we do a deep dive into all the critical items during the Initial Planning Session, which creates awareness/alignment on decisions that need to be made on important subjects. We are an independent sounding board for these items, and only go as deep as the client cares to.
- Construction supervision. We schedule and "nudge" the process to completion, creating accountability.
- Final Training and Review. We confirm that the loved ones and Executor are familiar with the Digital Binder software and familiar with all of the contents. Most importantly, we make sure they understand the road map that the Client has laid out for them.
The Family DIY Plan only includes the Final Training and Review. The construction is completed by the Client with technical support from our team.
