The primary objective of the Legacy Planning Business Consulting Service is to focus on and create a plan around the following question:
"If any member of the family involved in the business was incapacitated (short term or long term) or passed away, how would that impact the business and what steps should be taken today to plan for the actions that would be initiated if any of those circumstances were to happen?"
First, we will gather basic information about the business:
- History of the business (formation / evolution) - Ownership structure / Management structure
- Business services (revenue generation model) - Critical processes that make up the activities that support the business (revenue generation, service/product delivery, and administrative effort)
Once we memorialize these items, we can discuss the options that exist if any of the circumstances described above happen, which would necessitate:
- Maintenance of the status quo (addressing the leadership shortfall)
- Sale of the business
- Winddown of the business
We will spend some time discussing the current state of digital memorialization of the people, processes, systems, and reporting (though this is not the primary objective of our planning).
We can then discuss the readiness for the business to accommodate any of the circumstances described above and what steps should be taken now to prepare and plan. We will memorialize the discussion and identify the next steps necessary to effectuate that preparation and planning.
The final deliverable from this service is a memorandum that can be shared with the applicable members of the family, who would need to know how to take action if there was a loss or incapacitation.
